Problem BOX is a place where strangers work on the world's big and small
problems together. You can use it without signing up — and then we ask for no name and no email.
But if you sign in with Google or write something, that much stays on our server.
This page says what stays, why, and when it goes away. If anything here reads
wrong to you, that is something for us to fix — tell us.

01What we collect
Without sign-up — an anonymous account ID (UUID) and access time.
If you sign in with Google — email address, name, profile picture.
Optional profile — display name, avatar, field of work, years of experience.
Country — a country code guessed from your browser's time zone.
No location permission, no IP lookup.
What you write — problems, causes, solutions, stars, follows.
Behavioural data — which problems were shown to you, which you opened, starred,
marked unimportant, or dismissed, with timestamps.
We never collect payment details, national ID numbers, or precise location.
02Why we collect it
To run the service; to show who wrote what — field and experience, so a stranger can weigh it;
to avoid showing you what you already dismissed; to surface problems close to your interest;
and to catch duplicates before one problem scatters across many boards.
Behavioural data decides who sees a problem — not how it ranks.
03How long we keep it
Account and profile data — until you ask us to delete it.
Posts — until you delete them. Posts attached to someone else's board may have the author
stripped while the content stays, so the chain stays readable.
Behavioural records — deleted after 1 year.
Dormant anonymous accounts — deleted 1 year after last visit.
04Who else touches it
Supabase (database and authentication, stored in the AWS Seoul region), Vercel (hosting),
and Google (sign-in, and Google Analytics for visit statistics). We never sell your data or
hand it to advertisers.
Anything you post — along with your display name, field, experience and flag — is public.
Please don't write what you don't want seen.
05Cookies and local storage
No advertising cookies. We do use Google Analytics (GA4)'s _ga cookie to see
visit counts and popular pages. Your browser also stores a login session token and a few
keys (pb.saved, pb.recentBoards, pb.onboarded) for saved
boards, recently viewed boards, and whether you've seen the intro. Clearing them signs you out
and counts you as a new visitor in GA4.
06Voice chat
When you join voice on a board, your audio travels directly between participants'
browsers. It does not pass through our servers, and it is never stored or recorded.
Your microphone turns on only after you press join and grant browser permission.
You start muted, and audio is sent only while you hold the V key.
The signalling needed to connect you (who is in the room, and the network details
peers use to find each other) passes through Supabase. It carries no audio.
Others on the board can see your display name, flag, and that you are speaking.
Some networks will not allow a direct connection; in that case the call simply does not
connect. If we add a relay server, we will update this section first.
An admin can remove a disruptive participant from the call.
07Your rights
You may request access, correction, deletion, or restriction of your data at any time —
including under the GDPR if you are in the EEA. We respond within 10 days.
The service is for people aged 14 and over.
